SOUNIO
The marble comes from just up the coast, and is whiter than that used on the Acropolis. The quarries are mined out now; for centuries, locals just came and took building stones away and no one paid much attention to this remote site.
Vasiliki brought along a book about the temple and fortifications, plus her index card notes. It made the excursion much more interesting.

The parking attendants for these restaurants are all dressed like shepherds. They come out into the traffic and with dramatic waves of their shepherd crook, try to herd cars into their restaurant's parking lot. O we, like sheep....
Look at the gleam in the boys' eyes! As in our community dances, outnumbered but having fun.
The priest takes off his stole and outer robe. On the table: an icon, foil to protect the table from the oil light, incense censor, stems of basil, bowl of water.
Palm nuts glow orange gold in the sun. The berries and their cascading stems are deep yellow.
